Great soccer/football quote!

Posted by: admin | Comments (0)

I thought this quote by Patrice Evra after Manchester United had beaten Arsenal at their Emirates Stadium 3-1 hit home….”Arsenal are a side who play very attractive football. We do as well, with the difference that ours is devastating!”

PS. I’m neither an Arsenal or Man U fan – I just liked the quote!

A champion is someone who does not settle for that day’s practice, that day’s competition, that day’s performance. They are always striving to be better. They don’t live in the past.

Some more motivational soccer quotes!

Here’s some more motivational soccer quotes that I came across on my travels in cyberspace…

Football is simple but the hardest thing to do is playing simple football.

~Johan Cruyff

I don’t believe there is such a thing as a ‘born’ soccer player. Perhaps you are born with certain skills and talents, but quite frankly it seems impossible to me that one is actually born to be an ace soccer player.

~Pele

Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do.

~Pele

“Behind every kick of the ball there has to be a thought.”

~Dennis Bergkamp

Failure happens all the time. It happens every day in practice. What makes you better is how you react to it.

Brian Clough quotes!

Posted by: admin | Comments (0)

Brian Clough – His achievement of winning back-to-back European Cups with Nottingham Forest is considered to be one of the greatest in football history.

Charismatic, outspoken, and often controversial, Clough is widely considered to be one of the greatest managers of the English game and the greatest English manager never to manage the England team. On being asked his attitude towards the England selectors he replied, “I’m sure the England selectors thought if they took me on and gave me the job, I’d want to run the show. They were shrewd because that’s exactly what I would have done” (Quote from Wikipedia.)

Some of my favourite quotes…

I wouldn’t say I was the best manager in the business. But I was in the top one.

Players lose you games, not tactics. There’s so much crap talked about tactics by people who barely know how to win at dominoes.

The river Trent is lovely, I know because I have walked on it for 18 years.

“We talk about it for 20 minutes and then we decide I was right” – On dealing with players who disagree with him.

“They say Rome wasn’t built in a day, but I wasn’t on that particular job.”
Another Brian Clough sound bite that epitomises the man, and his famous self-belief.
“For all his horses, knighthoods and championships, he hasn’t got two of what I’ve got. And I don’t mean balls.” – Nottingham Forest Brian Clough on Sir Alex Ferguson’s failure to match his record of two European Cup wins.

Pele motivational quotes!

“When football stars disappear, so do the teams, and that is a very curious phenomenon. It is like in the theatre, in a play, where there is a great star. If the star is not well, the whole cast suffers.” Pele

“His left foot is fantastic. It’s like Mozart. God gave Freddy (Adu) the gift to play soccer. If he is prepared mentally and physically, nobody will stop him.” Pele

“I don’t believe there is such a thing as a ‘born’ soccer player. Perhaps you are born with certain skills and talents, but quite frankly it seems impossible to me that one is actually born to be an ace soccer player.” Pele

“Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do.” Pele

“Enthusiasm is everything. It must be taut and vibrating like a guitar string.” Pele

“Everything is practice.” Pele

“A penalty is a cowardly way to score.” Pele

“For 20 years they have asked me the same question, who is the greatest? Pele or Maradona? I replay that all you have to do is look at the facts – how many goals did he score with his right foot or with his head?” Pele

“He is the greatest player in the world right now, without a doubt, he is the player who gives (Brazilians) the most joy.” Pele, on Ronaldinho
