9 Reasons to Learn Freestyle Soccer  Written By Thiago De Carvalho

Ever thought about why you should learn freestyle soccer? Maybe here are a few reasons why…

Improve Your Ball Control

Imagine having the ability to go past players at will? It has been proven over the years that practising freestyle soccer can substantially improve your ball control. Just ask Ronaldinho.

Obtain Killer Reflexes

Many freestyle tricks involve speed and good eye co-ordination. The more difficult the tricks you perform the more speed and eye co-ordination you’ll require, so without a doubt you’ll obtain killer reflexes.

Increase Your Fitness Levels

Not a fan of long distance running? Freestyle soccer can be the ideal exercise for you because you spend most of the time moving on the same spot. This doesn’t mean you won’t get a good work out though, trying complicated tricks for long periods of time can certainly tire you out.

Impress Your Friends

If you’re the type of person who likes to put on a show, you’re going to love freestyle soccer. The more you practise your freestyle tricks the more you’ll be able to amaze your friends with a dazzling array of tricks on and off the field.

Unlock The Meanest Defence

Discover the key to unlocking the baddest and meanest defences on the planet. Who will be able to stop you from cutting holes when your skills are as sharp as razor blades. The tools that you’ll have at your disposal (once knowing how to freestyle) cannot be underestimated.

Score More Goals

Having difficulty creating goal scoring opportunity’s from long balls and sizzling crosses? Well, maybe it’s because you’re lacking the maneuverability to set yourself up in front of goal with a first time deft touch. Freestyle soccer can prepare you for any type of ball you receive, whether it’s high in the air or low on the ground.

Humiliate Your Opponents

Don’t think twice about wiping the floor with your opponents. Freestyle soccer skills will give you the power to annihilate your enemies when you feel it’s necessary.

Decide The Outcome

How would you like to be able to change the result of a soccer match in a matter of seconds, not only once but again and again? Practice your freestyle soccer moves daily and you’re guaranteed to produce moments of magic on the pitch.

Become A Star

When you become brilliant at freestyle soccer, make your own soccer video and post it on to websites like YouTube and Metacafe. One famous soccer performer (Tsatsulow) became a star by generating over 10 million views with his soccer video.

The Queen of Soccer – Mia Hamm Biography
By Niv Orlian
Women’s soccer never would have been the same if Mia Hamm hadn’t started up soccer when she was little. She had such an impact on women’s soccer that she is often thought to mean as much for it as Pele or Cruyff meant for men’s soccer. But before being a great soccer player and athlete that broke down almost every possible record at her level, Mia Hamm is a great person and I’d like you to meet the human behind the soccer god in this Mia Hamm biography.

If you’re like me, you’re probably wondering how and when did Mia Hamm start playing soccer and what events drove her to become a super star of women’s soccer. Mia Hamm’s childhood circled around sports and athleticism and as her brother recalled, she was faster and more athletic than most of the boys on the block, so she was able to play competitively with and against them.

After taking up youth soccer training at her school’s football team when she was only 12 years old, she learned the basics of soccer and started enjoying the sport more and more. Little did she know that three years later, when she was just 15, she would be called up for the United States national women’s soccer team, becoming the youngest player ever to play for her country at that level (one of her first broken records).

That was kind of a weird situation, since Mia Hamm was a soccer player for her national squad but didn’t have a fully professional playing contract with a club. But after seeing her performances, the North Carolina Tar Heels quickly signed her and they made quite a deal, since Mia Hamm stayed with the club for 4 seasons, scoring over 100 goals during her time here.

Probably one of Mia Hamm’s most important accomplishments is that she managed to bring women’s soccer to a level close to what men are playing. She is one of the two women named in Pele’s “List of 125 Best Soccer Players of All Times” and she is a symbol of women’s sports throughout the World.

She also holds two FIFA World Player of the Year awards, which she got in 2001 (the first year the trophy was given) and 2002. Unfortunately, she would have gotten a lot more of these awards, but with the World Player of the Year awards being granted for women when Mia Hamm was already nearing the end of her career, she didn’t really have a chance to widen her trophy room.

In numbers, Mia Hamm was the United States top goal scorer, with 158 goals in 275 matches, a remarkable record that will probably dust and rust before it is beaten. She scored more goals than any man or woman for her national team, although many soccer specialists will agree that the level of women’s soccer is still in an early grade and cannot be compared to men’s soccer yet.

She won the Women’s World Cup twice, in 1991 and 1999 and also put the US national team through a Gold Medal at the Olympic Games in 1996. All these titles, records and awards make Mia Hamm one of the most important players in women’s soccer and the fact that Pele considered to put her on the same list as legendary male players such as Maradona, Cruyff, Platini or Beckenbauer says a lot about the influence she had in the game.

Soccer Workout

By Darren Pitfield

Development of the comprehensive Technical and Fitness Soccer Workout

It is well documented that to establish yourself as a successful high level soccer (football) player requires 1,000,000’s of touches on the ball. As coaches we attempt to force soccer drills and games during training and practice sessions to make up for the lack of touches performed by players elsewhere. As a coach I became frustrated with this problem and tried to look at the big picture. Especially in the US players rely largely on their training sessions only, assuming their coach can give them some magic formula to developing good touch in 2-3 hrs a week. Realistically this is not possible and I looked for ways to produce technically sound players within the time constraints given to me. The concept of a professional personal soccer workout was born.

The solution I came up with was that the players needed to be pushed somehow outside of soccer practice and ‘guided’ into training themselves to make up for the huge deficiency in touches. With the experience of thousands of soccer drills I had seen I put together a series of small personal soccer drills that players could perform at home. This can be adjusted based on the topic you want the player to focus on (Technical, Fitness, etc). Try implementing a soccer workout program for your players and team. It will enable your players to get the touch and technique they need without you have to spend valuable training time working on it. Freeing you to do tactical and more team related training sessions.

Don’t Be Lazy, Read About Soccer Motivation

By Thomas Karapatsos

Can you tell me the number one reason soccer performance declines in certain players? The biggest and most common reason that affects soccer performance is soccer motivation or lack of it. Without motivation all soccer players will crumble under the various pressures and problems soccer manages to throw up.

Players are motivated by 2 methods. Motivating yourself or personal self-motivation is referred to as intrinsic while being motivated by outside forces such as coaches, team mates or fans is referred to as extrinsic. Generally speaking, motivation is guided by the hope of success and the fear of failure.

So why do so many talented and gifted players give up the game they love so much? They quit the game they love due to the lack of self belief and the lack of confidence. When you lack these two traits there is a good chance you also lack motivation.

CreateDreams

All players dream of playing on the big stage but without motivation, all these players will not be prepared to put in the extra training and effort required to succeed. Time spent on the park and in the gym would diminish significantly. So how do we motivate soccer players?

The answer to the above question has no specific or correct answer. Also there is no specific method or perfect method to motivating players. Circumstance, level of professionalism and the individual require different levels of motivation.

The following are suggestions that will allow any coach to keep their team motivated. For starters, all coaches should encourage their players. Always encourage fun and hard work at training. This will keep your players returning to training and will also develop their skills while still having fun.

Always remain positive and enthusiastic. Your enthusiasm and positivity will eventually rub off on your team. Place more emphasis on the positive aspects of your team rather than the negative. Under no circumstance are you to yell at your players or embarrass them. Always offer help and suggestions on improvement in a positive and friendly manner. It’s important to build friendships with your players based on honesty and positivity.

Another great way to keep players motivated is by setting goals. Try developing short term and long term goals. Measure and record improvements and this will inevitably keep your players hungry for more self development. But remember to set small, achievable goals that will build confidence and self esteem.

Last but not least, the best way to keep your players motivated is by being supportive. Always respect your players and they will also return the favor. When players make mistakes remind them that the best players in the world make mistakes and that they shouldn’t worry. Remind them that we all make mistakes and through these mistakes they will eventually become better players.

All coaches should get to know all their players and speak to them as a team and on an individual basis. Praise their strengths and mention their weaknesses in an honest and friendly manner. Never use intimidation or fear as a tool to teach young players. If you follow the above suggestions I can guarantee you that your team will be motivated and keen to learn.

Never say die!

Posted by: admin | Comments (0)

There I was listening to my team Chesterfield FC on the radio.(My lovely wife had set me up with a DIY job that I thought might take an hour and a half at most – so I couldn’t go to the game.)

With chances missed,  a 0-0 draw seemed a destined disappointing result. Then in the 88 minute we were awarded a penalty! Brilliant! A win there to be taken in the last two minutes. But no, the keeper saves it! Three points gone down the pan. I’ll have to settle for one. Chesterfield had other ideas and pressed forward. Then two minutes into added time we SCORE! Wayde Small, who had earlier missed four good chances finished off a great move.

We’d stolen three points when I’d given up on them. Big mistake, these guys now play to the bitter end. So the motto here is NEVER SAY DIE! (Like I did.)

My DIY job was turning into a bit of a disaster – but my determination stepped in and I completed the job three hours later than expected. I could have easily said ’stuff it’ but no, if my team can persevere then so can I. So me and my wife both sat down with a happy glow!

Taking Control of Your Confidence Before the Kick-off

Written by Dr. Patrick Cohn

Nothing is more important than the feeling of confidence before the start of the game. What is confidence? Confidence is the belief in your ability and it can include two areas: (1) a general belief in your ability to perform well and win the game; and (2) a task-specific belief in your ability to pass, run, tackle, and execute. How do football players develop confidence? Confidence comes from many sources and it varies from person to person. Most players get confidence from one or more of the following:

(1) past success,

(2) experience,

(3) performing well in the immediate past,

(4) other persons,

(5) practice, and

(6) having a good support team.

Here are some ideas to help you feel confident at the start of the game:

Believe in your skills. This is really the definition of confidence. If you believe in your football skills and physical talents, then it is said you have confidence. If you back yourself more than anyone on the field, then you have confidence. This comes from your belief in football skills, such as passing, running, tackling, blocking, etc.

08Belief

Reinforce why you will succeed. I ask athletes to list the reasons to succeed—sort of a self-help exercise. Many athletes don’t give themselves enough credit for the successes and other skills that contribute to good play. Athletes sometimes overlooked their own mini successes. Other players disqualify positives in their career. What is your list for the reasons to succeed? It can be comprised of your ability, your team, past success, good coaches, practice, fitness, and many other areas that contribute to confidence.

Battle the doubt. Part of staying confident is battling your own internal doubt. No one is perfect and in times of adversity it’s tough not to have any doubts about winning. The first place to start it to identify any doubts you have had in the past and that are themes in your career such as “My team is not good enough to win.” The next step is to counter the doubt with statements that turns the situation around into an advantage such as: “I have the confidence that my team can is better than any team we play.”

You have to see it before you can achieve it. It’s so easy for kids to have big dreams about the future, but as adults that same ability gets beaten down by others. Keeping the dream alive means seeing and feeling success close in hand. To win at your sport, you have to see yourself win over and over again. With the vision, comes confidence that it is all possible.

Use the past to feel confident today. Most football players would say that past success and experience in playing is the number one source for confidence today. You can tape into your success in the past to help you feel confident today by replaying successful games, practices, conversations, and kudos from others. In today’s game, you might recall a successful play you had on a similar field or similar conditions.

Patience in a form of confidence. A patient player is a confident player. The challenge in football is to stay patience when thing are not going your way today. It’s easy to give in to internal doubt and criticism when you are not on top in your sport. But the better choice is to stay patient with results and wait for good things to happen. A patient football player says to himself that it might not be happening right now, but I know my play will take a turn for the better.

Mission Accomplished!

Posted by: admin | Comments (0)

England booked their place at next summer’s World Cup with an emphatic 5-1 dismissal of Croatia at Wembley Stadium.

Proud England captain John Terry said the way the Three Lions played against Croatia on Wednesday night will make them difficult to beat.

And the skipper believes that, after eight wins from eight games, Fabio Capello’s men are moving in the right direction.

“The manager stressed tonight to press them, and that is what we did,” said Terry.

“When we play like that, pressing opponents and working the ball, we’re a difficult opposition for any side.

“There was great pressing from the midfield lads and great attacking play from the front lads today.”

But he warned: “It’s taken us a year or so to get to this level, and we’ve still got a way to go to get to where we ultimately want to be. But we’re on the right track.”

“Since then there has been nothing but hard work, our confidence has gone up a million miles, and I think the way the team is playing and the way we played tonight typifies our campaign.

REMEMBER YOU DON”T GET ANYTHING WITHOUT HARD WORK!
