There I was listening to my team Chesterfield FC on the radio.(My lovely wife had set me up with a DIY job that I thought might take an hour and a half at most – so I couldn’t go to the game.)
With chances missed, a 0-0 draw seemed a destined disappointing result. Then in the 88 minute we were awarded a penalty! Brilliant! A win there to be taken in the last two minutes. But no, the keeper saves it! Three points gone down the pan. I’ll have to settle for one. Chesterfield had other ideas and pressed forward. Then two minutes into added time we SCORE! Wayde Small, who had earlier missed four good chances finished off a great move.
We’d stolen three points when I’d given up on them. Big mistake, these guys now play to the bitter end. So the motto here is NEVER SAY DIE! (Like I did.)
My DIY job was turning into a bit of a disaster – but my determination stepped in and I completed the job three hours later than expected. I could have easily said ‘stuff it’ but no, if my team can persevere then so can I. So me and my wife both sat down with a happy glow!
